At Spinolution we like to think that our community of dealers is one of the reasons owning a Spinolution Spinning wheel is so exciting. While you may buy a wheel from any dealer online by using our Dealer Map we would love the opportunity to highlight some of our wonderful dealers who may be in your area to help you get better acquainted with our wheels and immersed in your local fiber arts community.
Where are you located and what do you love about the fiber arts in your area?
I am located in Southern Oregon, in a small town called Tenmile. Fiber arts in my area has taken a bit of a back seat, but it is on the rise again. By joining my local guild I get to do events that do outreach to children and that’s my most favorite thing. Another thing I love about my area is most of the year you can take your fiber arts into nature and get the best of both worlds. For instance camping is something I love to do and my fiber project goes with me.
What inspired you to start your own fiber arts business?
What inspired me to start my own fiber arts business was the lack of spinning supplies in my area. It’s like I live in a void, you can find yarn and we happen to have a very large LYS but as for wheels and fiber it is hit and miss. I wanted to share my love of fiber and make it to where folks could get their hands on a wheel and fiber. I want to inspire the next generation to handcraft and fall in love with fiber like I did. Also, I seen there was a lovely online community that Spinolution had amongst each other, it was like its own little family and I really wanted to be part of that. Might I mention that it was a great choice on my part!
Then there is people like Erin James that inspired me to love what I do and have fun while doing it. I had watched her on YouTube for a couple of years and you were having fun sharing your videos and skills with everyone. Erin and Grace Hopkins were two people that inspired me. Such talented, awesome, funny, amazing ladies!
What is your favorite feature of Spinolution Spinning wheels?
My favorite feature of the Spinolution wheel is... boy that’s a hard one. Well first off I love the ease of use, they are so simple to use and smooth to treadle. I really like that they are oil free and just cool but for me I think it would be how easy and fast it is to change out a bobbin. It’s super simple and takes seconds and your tension is not affected what so ever. That’s super awesome in my book! No orifice hooks! Lol Not so on some other wheels where I get frustrated!
Which is your favorite wheel if you could only choose one?
My favorite wheel, gosh another hard question. There is just something about that pollywog that is awesome, but if I have to choose just one I would have to go with the bullfrog. It is fairly light and folds down for travel, has large 16oz bobbins and spins so effortless that I can spin for hours without any pain in my hips or back. It is a great everything wheel, you dream it and it will spin it! The size of the wheel is big enough to be a production wheel and highly portable, that isn’t something you often find in wheels to have the best of both worlds with portability and production. It’s a win, win for any type of spinning in my opinion.
What other hobbies or interests do you have outside of your business?
My other hobbies besides fiber arts is photography, fly fishing and riding one of my motorcycles. We live in a rural area with lots of mountains, rivers, lakes and roads. I really enjoy being in nature, we like to load up the cabover camper and go off into the wilds of the PNW exploring Mother nature, camping, and enjoying the adventure it brings. Nothing makes me happier than being out in nature honestly. I am a Astro geek as well and love to watch the stars!
How long have you been a dealer?
I have only been a dealer for a few months now but I am really enjoying being part of the Spinolution family. I have got to help people trouble shoot and fix things. I have been inspired by others and the best part I have met some really amazing people.
If you could give one piece of advice to new spinners or fiber enthusiast what would it be?
The one piece of advice to a new spinner would be to just jump in, if you want to become a spinner don’t wait and wait because its something unknown to you, just start. Don’t be afraid to give it a go, we all make something ugly a time or two! Lol I think we hold our self back from things we are unsure of, spinning is no different. So that’s it just get spinning!
